At the University of Economics in Bratislava on 7 and 8 February 2008 under the auspice of the spouse of the slovak President Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová took place an international conference of the German language called "German Language as a Specialized Foreign Language in the Border Regions." The conference was organized by the Department of Foreign Languages of the University of Economics as a parto of his enhance to the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication. The conference was attended by 60 international guests from 10 countries.
As Mrs. Gašparovičová said, "German language is a traditional language, which is spoken in Slovakia and is the preferred language of today." As she noted with pleasure, in the school year 2007/2008 on gymnasiums in the Slovak Republic German are taught 63% of students, in secondary vocational schools 59% of students. First Lady appealed to the german-speaking countries to continue providing the best forms of study trips for students and teachers of German, to promote education and learning of German realities.
