Global financial and economic crisis, conflict in the Middle East, or population aging. Even for those burning topics were looking for answers this year’s Model European Parliament participants. The culmination of a four-day meeting of students who participated in this project was the meeting with the slovak First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová on 5th October 2009 in the Presidential Palace. "The fact that this project is popular among students you can see at your involvement in this project. You personally could try at least for a few days what means to be a MEP. Part of their work is also participating in the meetings of the European Parliament and meetings of parliamentary committees, and creating laws or various directives that affect the daily lives of more than 500 million EU citizens," said in her speech the First Lady, who took the patronage over this project.
National Coordinator of the Model European Parliament Mrs. Mária Rychnavská thanked the First Lady for a warm welcome. "I very seriously and loudly must say that this was a group of 46 students who behaved highly professional, highly knowledgeable and all topics that have been defined by the international organization they managed with virtuosity," said Mrs. Rychnavská.
Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová thanked teachers for the work they dedicated to these students. "Very gratifying is your interest in public affairs in this project. Very important is also the approach and expertise of your teachers and coordinators. With teachers who guide your life steps you can be successful and achieve your dream goals.," said the First Lady. Finally she wished them many success in their personal, academic, but also future working life.
