Friendly and warm – this identified the meeting with the U.S. First Lady Laura Bush and the First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová. The White House visited Mrs. Gašparovičová during an official visit to the U.S. on 9th October 2008.
From the terrace of the White House both ladies had a look at the garden. Currently there prepared an orchestra for the final concert of the Hispanic Culture Month. Both ladies, however, discussed also working issues during a typical american lunch, where they served a pumpkin soup, fish with vegetables and a dessert. They discussed particular activities, which they deal in their countries. Also issues that in recent days resonance in the United States – such as the presidential election and the financial situation in both countries – were discussed.
First Lady of the United States pays great attention to promoting education and development of children from an early age. Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová was therefore interested in how is the physical fitness of children in american schools due to the fact, she seeks to healthier lifestyle of children at schools through her foundation. "Children are our future and therefore we have to pay attention to them from childhood on. I know that in the United States children have problems with overweight and therefore I wanted to know what to do in order to have a healthier population."
Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová viewed the historical rooms of the White House, which impressed her with its historical and artistic value.
Laura Bush belongs in recent years among the activists in the fight against breast cancer. And especially October is the month when both in the United States but also in european countries education against this vicious disease is done. Interesting is also that for few days the White House was illuminated in pink, which is a symbol of this campaign.
