For the second time, Silvia Gašparovičová took the auspices of presenting awards of the „2005 ĽUDOVÁ BANKA GRAND PRIX “, organized by the Ľudová banka, a.s., Bank in a close cooperation with the Slovak Rectors Conference. On Sunday, 13 November 2005, the First Lady took part in a gala evening in the building of the Slovak Philharmonic, where the awards were presented to 22 best university graduates of the school year 2004/ 2005.
Silvia Gašparovičová congratulated to the awarded students, wishing them that this award be not only an award for their efforts they had made so far, but also motivation for further studying and driving-force in their professional and private lives. In addition, she thanked the authors of the idea of this project and the management of the Ľudová banka Bank for motivating students and appreciating quality of their knowledge. Finally, she underlined the fact that the Ľudová banka Bank does not understand awarding best students as a single event only. On the contrary, it is a regular project having been running for a long time. This year the project took place for the ninth time.
„Even though everybody sees his or her own education and knowledge in particular as his or her own intellectual property, I cannot help reminding that everybody who feels strongly about prosperity and future of our country feels strongly also about having as many as possible well educated young people who can help our country and succeed in the tough competition with educated young people from other developed countries of the European Union and the whole world. Educated citizens are the greatest wealth any state can have. And this is not only a cliché. It is a well proven fact valid in the whole world,” said Silvia Gašparovičová in her speech.
