Andrej Kiska in Croatia: We can still improve our cooperation

President Andrej Kiska arrived on Tuesday for a two-day official visit to Croatia. He met with the highest constitutional officials, including President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković.

The talks focused mainly on strengthening mutual cooperation, particularly in the economic field and tourism. Foreign-political issues were also one of the topics.

According to President Kiska, we have something to learn from Croatia, especially in the field of tourism. ”For Croatia, income from tourism is 18 to 19 percent of GDP. Unfortunately, in Slovakia it is only 2.5 percent, while the potential is much greater,” says the President. But, he considers developed industry to be a strong aspect of Slovakia.

Andrej Kiska appreciated the care Croatians provide annually to more than 400,000 Slovak visitors: ”I would like to say thank you for the fact that our people really feel a bit like at home here. We are pleased with the increase in tourism. I would certainly be pleased if more Croatian citizens got to know our beautiful Slovakia, to discover our beautiful mountains, spas, nature. I believe that it will improve,” said Andrei Kiska, remarking on the tourism margin.

In this context, President Kiska also interpreted the Croatian president’s view that the Croatian Sea is also the Slovak sea.

On the topic of the European Union, both presidents agreed that it is of the utmost importance for the Union to remain united. According to them, division is not the correct approach.

On the journalistic question about the upcoming Three-Sea Initiative Summit, Andrej Kiska said that the initiative should make the European Union even more cohesive and stronger. At the summit in Warsaw, leaders of 12 countries, including Slovakia, will be brought together in early July. They will hold talks on strengthening the region by developing energy and infrastructure relations between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas.

Part of the program of President Andrej Kiska’s on Tuesday was the Croatian-Slovak Innovation Forum and a meeting with the expat community living in Croatia. The president is accompanied by a group of Slovak entrepreneurs and representatives of the academic community on the trip.
