We must face hatred by expanding the space of good and humanistic values

On Wednesday 20 October 2021, President Čaputová visited the Seniors Club of the Jewish Religious Community in Bratislava on the occasion of the Month of Respect for the Elderly.

During her discussion with the club members, the president thanked them for keeping alive and maintaining the collective memory of us all. She also highlighted that although they underwent the worst, she can see in their eyes the resolution to enjoy the small things, and to overcome worries and difficulties with ease and faith in a positive outcome.

“It was a great honour and pleasure for me to meet these seniors and survivors of the Holocaust. Their energy, optimism and diligence which they still have at their age are admirable. They themselves as well as their families and friends experienced genuine hatred - abuse, discrimination and murder. They sensitively perceive that malice and hatred is growing again. We must face this by expanding the space of good and humanistic values. We must firmly stand and unite with those who express goodness and humanity through their words and actions.”
