Polish President pays official visit to Slovakia

President Čaputová welcomed Andrzej Duda, the Polish President on Tuesday, 9 November 2021.

According to the president, it is important for neighbours to speak together on a regular basis.  The Polish president arrived on an official visit of Slovakia at a time of escalating tension on the Polish-Belarusian border. “Alexander Lukashenko’s regime is intentionally abusing the complicated situation of refugees from various countries as a tool to pressure the EU. I expressed my full support for Poland in this respect. The EU must react to the acts of the Belarusian regime. At the same, the deteriorating humanitarian situation on the EU border with Belarus must be addressed.”

The president was also interested in open questions between Poland and the EU institutions regarding the rule of law. She emphasized the importance of having a constructive and expert dialogue. “Strengthening the rule of law and trust in institutions are among the basic values and principles of the functioning of the EU.   Our regular and open dialogue with Poland and the ability to listen carefully to each other, although we do not always agree on everything, is of extreme importance for our good neighbourly relations.”
