Kiska paid visit to several Slovak projects in Nairobi

President Andrej Kiska´s second day of his official visit in Nairobi continued by making visits to several projects involving the Slovak development aid. He visited The Mary Immaculate Hospital, Songa Mbele education and therapy centre in the Mukuru Slum area, South B, Nairobi and a primary school operated with the support of the Slovak St. Elisabeth University of Health and Social Sciences.

The President said, he is proud that Slovaks are able to help in Africa. Thousands of people have been treated by our physicians who saved the lives of many of their patients. “We are able to save what is most precious – the lives of children,” underlined the President.

In facilities and schools receiving support of Slovak organisations as well, the street children coming from the slums get the necessary support and they are also helped out of their drug addictions. “There, the children are given the most important thing they need – an education and diverse practical skills allowing many of them getting a job,” Kiska appreciated.

“Not every child is lucky enough to grow up in a country like ours. It is up to the developed world to consider how to help,” the President observed and added that children are the same everywhere: they want to play and they want to be healthy.

President Kiska highly appreciated the meeting with a local medical student called Benson and his family. Benson takes his study of medicine in Slovakia. He saw his family for the first time in four years only because he could join the President´s delegation. “He is another example that all the projects organised by our volunteers are supported by our government have their sense and one can see their direct impact. We should never forget that back home,” the President added. After graduation, Benson intends to return to Kenya and become a podiatrist.
