President Zuzana Čaputová contacted all of the ambassadors of the EU Member States accredited in Slovakia via videocall on Tuesday, 8 December 2020.

This type of meeting is held semi-annually at the initiative of the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Germany in this case. The ambassadors were primarily interested in the political situation in Slovakia connected with the handling of the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s climate policy and views on current European issues, in particular, negotiations regarding the EU budget, the Recovery Fund and the more ambitious 2030 emissions reduction targets which are expected to be adopted at the summit of the leaders of the EU countries in Brussels.

According to the President, the ambassadors were especially pleased with the changes in the country’s judicial system which is moving in the direction of its purification and Slovakia’s standpoint within the V4 countries, which supports achieving agreement on the Recovery Plan. "The Recovery Plan is extremely important for our future, since we anticipate the improvement of the epidemic situation next year followed by the recovery of our economy and the social system after this difficult crisis.”
