President in Ukraine: I Have Seen the Traces of Destruction with My Own Eyes

President Čaputová visited Ukraine on Tuesday 31 May 2022.

First, she visited the towns of Borodyanka and Irpin nearby Kiev, where civilian targets, such as schools, cultural centres and residential buildings and were destroyed by rocket attacks and gunfire. In the president’s opinion, the fact that the pictures of the war in Ukraine are not in the headlines does not mean that the suffering of the Ukrainian people is any less painful. “In Borodyanka and Irpin I have seen with my very eyes the traces of destruction by Russian soldiers.”

At the same time, she pointed out that hundreds of kilometres to the east and south Ukrainian civilians – women, men and children, in the thousands, face the same destruction today.  The president later met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kiev and delivered a speech before the deputies in the Ukrainian Parliament.
