President Accepts Resignation of Marek Krajčí and Appoints Eduard Heger

President Zuzana Čaputová accepted the resignation of Minister of Health, Marek Krajčí, at the Presidential Palace on Friday, 12 March 2021.

The president trusts that Minister Krajčí acted to the best of his knowledge and beliefs and that his decisions were guided by good intentions. However, the fact remains that he failed to push through several important and crucial recommendations and was not supported even by members of the government and his own ministers. "I consider political accountability to be an integral part of a minister’s mandate. This was a key topic of discussion leading up to the elections and the OĽaNO movement strongly supported the expectations of the general public regarding the new political culture. This is why I have even more trouble identifying with the interpretation that the minister’s resignation is being perceived as a sacrifice. It is a natural consequence of the situation we are facing during the pandemic and throughout our entire society."

Eduard Heger, the Minister of Finance, was appointed as the interim Health Minister.
