The President met with the President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski

On Thursday 8 October 2020, President Zuzana Čaputová received Stevo Pendarovski, the President of North Macedonia, at the Presidential Palace.

They discussed the effects of the pandemic on their respective countries, North Macedonia’s transformation process, its negotiations on accession to the European Union, and the current situation in the Western Balkans. They agreed on the need for further development in cooperation between Slovakia and North Macedonia.

The President and I have spoken about what must be done for our countries to remain economically stable and keep to a minimum the social impacts from the pandemic. We spoke about the importance of European integration in this context because there has never been a time when we could be more confident of EU assistance. Slovakia is ready to share its experience of transformation during its European integration. The pre-accession period is full of challenges, but the key thing is to establish and make clear the rule of law, which is the foundation of a prospering society. I am glad that I could inform President Pendarovski that the Slovak Republic has prepared material humanitarian aid in value of € 205,000 to assist North Macedonia in fighting the pandemic and will be dispatching it on Friday 9 October.
