President Receives Petra Vlhová, Winner of the World Cup

President Zuzana Čaputová received Petra Vlhová, winner of the Alpine Ski World Cup and holder of the Big Crystal Globe at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.

The President thanked her for representing Slovakia and especially for the fact that in these difficult times she could bring cheer to people who long for good news. "Petra has succeeded despite the fact that her gift developed under considerably more modest conditions than her competitors. She succeeded because she worked hard and due to her determination, perseverance and love of skiing. Her success is also thanks to her loving and selfless family who have supported her on her path to victory.

The President also noted that she could imagine the great pressure placed on an athlete by the expectations of the general public. The buzz from Petra’s victory in the World Cup can still be heard and yet discussions about the Olympic Games have already begun. “Petra, you shouldn’t worry about disappointing us in the competitions that lie ahead. You have already achieved unprecedented success in our country. Thank you.  We will keep our fingers crossed for your future success.”
