President meets Danish Prince Frederik

President meets Danish Prince Frederik

President Čaputová met Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, on 10 May 2021 during the first day of her visit to Denmark. Later she visited the State of Green centre and participated in the Copenhagen Democracy Summit.

In the words of the president, speaking to Prince Frederik was friendly and relaxing. The Crown Prince accepted the president’s invitation to visit Slovakia and plans to travel to Bratislava with a Danish business delegation. They talked about the importance of adhering to the rule of law and the plans of both countries regarding environmental protection and the green economic recovery.

The president also visited the State of Green centre which focuses on the Danish experience with green transformation and supports cooperation between Denmark’s public and private sectors. Andrej Doležal, Minister of Transportation and Construction, and representatives of expert organizations also participated in the meetings at the State of Green centre focusing on building renovation. "Over a billion Euro from our Recovery Plan will be earmarked for the renovation of buildings with the aim to save energy and reduce emissions. The Danes have achieved solid progress in this field and therefore, deepening our mutual cooperation and drawing from the Danish experience will be very important in effectively investing these funds."

Participation in the Copenhagen Democracy Summit was another item on the president’s state visit agenda. In her speech she emphasized that democracy requires three essential lines of defence – independent institutions with responsible public officials, an active civil society and free media. "They are the pillars of our democracy. All three lines act as corrective mechanisms – if one fails, the others will step up." The president also met Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the former prime minister of Denmark and NATO secretary general.
