Brown Salon

The Brown Salon, also known as the library, takes its name from the warm tones of wood and leather in its decor. It has a cosy and intimate atmosphere that makes it suitable for relaxation and informal meetings. Although it has never been the president’s official study, it remains one of the palace’s principal rooms. The space was originally occupied by two smaller rooms that were combined to make a gentlemen’s drawing room. The room’s original appearance was not preserved and it acquired its present look in 2006 – 2007.

It is furnished with 19th-century bookcases in a Baroque style supplemented by pieces newly made to the same design. The two brass chandeliers are part of the palace’s original furnishings. The bookcases are filled with various volumes: historical lawbooks, books on Slovak towns and regions and every book written by one of Slovakia’s presidents. The room also displays an original copy of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic from 1992 and the state seal, one of the four state symbols of the Slovak Republic.
